Welcome to Saint Bernard's Guide to Lent!

These forty days are filled with amazing opportunities to grow in grace and mercy.

Let's get started.

First, let's make Ashes:

We collect palm from last year.
Then we burn them:

This year we burned palm on the Monday before Ash Wednesday. Families came and joined the 6th graders in our
religious education program as Father Ralph blessed the ashes.

Thanks to all who came!

So why do we do ashes on Ash Wednesday?

Here are three references:

Read Fr Ralph's Column in the 2016 Sunday's Bulletin: Permanent Marker

Read his 2018 Ash Wednesday Column in the Levittown Tribune: Ashes, Ashes, We All Fall Down

Read his Ground Hog Day Column (about Lent) in the Levittown Tribune

Read his column Of Hearts and Ashes regarding Valentines Day and Ash Wednesday being on the same day.

So when are Ashes Distributed?

7am Mass
9am Mass
12:00 Service
3:30 Service
5:00 Service
7:30 Mass

(The difference between a Mass and a Service is that there is no communion at the Service.)

We'll also be distributing ashes to students at Religious Education Classes that day.

So here's what you'll be asked:

"Will you turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel?"
